in class we ended up discussing the the idea in relation to a signature or autograph - knowing that the actual person was there and signed the thing, was somehow connected to the thing.
It's tough, because a painting can have that "original object" aura because of brush strokes, non mechanical creation, but people poor just as much of their life into film, into a novel - yet you don't get the same aura from it. Yet, some people do feel very strong connections to old books, even if they've never been near the original author, it still feels like some part of them has seeped into it.
