The Gray Days
I can't sleep, and the gray is pushing against my window.
Let's put together some images.

I'm obsessed with the idea of gray.
That such a simple and often overlooked word could hold such imagery, emotion, and meaning.

Gray is an idea of being in between things. It is in between colors and in between emotion. It is the cloudy sky on a dreary day but it is also the early morning, and a feeling of anticipation. It could be considered the neutral, or to represent those who live their lives between the absolute morals of others. It can leave one feeling empty or be totally overpowering.

Maybe you associate it with depression, but I feel that is much too simplistic. Gray is simply not as easily classed as bubblegum pink or blood red, perky or violent, or forest green and sea blue, growing and calming, the all encompassing gray is something much much more powerful.

I can think of nothing better to describe what I am currently obsessed with in imagery, both photographic and literary.

I tend to use either spelling equally, although I try to keep it to one spelling per post or document, haha.

There hasn't been much I could say. It feels like I'm stuck between things. Hence the comment on your pretty grey photos.

I'm a big fan of fall. I don't like the cold as much as the ambiguous weather.

Gray is the middle; gray is the all encompassing space between everything. Gray is neutral. This is why it's powerful.

Also, this one is really beautiful. It reminds me of an entire novel I read once, or a movie I saw. It brings back deja vu, a scene I've seen somewhere, and I love it when photos do that.

Interesting. And lovely selection of photos, as usual.

I was thinking about grey just yesterday. When asked, I always say that my favorite color is green, and yet I'm constantly attracted to steely blue-greys. I'm campaigning right now to swap our "Dill Pickle" green walls for a color I can only describe as Somber Teal Grey ...

Prose is okay...ever heard of prose-poetry? It's sort of something in between(not to be confused with blank verse), and it's really, really good.
By the way, where did you take these photos? It's just that some of the backdrops look vaguely familiar...
I'm so into grey now, especially grey weather. I'm basically longing for a few days of London weather, even though I cursed it when I actually went to London, lol.

they're from Georgia, South Carolina, New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.

I'm bad with genres.. I've never known what the differences between prose, flowery prose, and prose poetry were.

I feel like I write prose but other people call it poetry, depending on what I write.

Oh yeah, I must have seen New Yorkin some movie-haven't been there, though. There's actually no sharp distinction- it is what it looks like. And it's quite relative, so it depends in a big way on the reader. That's my opinion, anyway.

oh don't worry, I always like comments on old entries. Makes me feel it was worth posting them in the first place.

I don't mind at all. If I share something on the internet, I'm meaning to share it. Really, if I could survive by just putting art out there for people to have or find I would, I wish I could somehow make a living like that.

I have never thought of grey as being all these things, and perhaps more. I love your photos of Union Square and of the girl in the orchard.

It is easy to fall in love with ideas. I don't think I've ever quite fallen out of love with the idea of city lights against a night sky.

Too true. In our heads, they're all too perfect. But our ideas can't hold us. On some days, I always feel like I'll take an imperfect, living, breathing person over an idea. On other days though, especially when mad ideas strike and consume, it can seem like they're all you need to keep going.

yeah, the flipside is that it's probably a lot easier to fall out of love with an idea than a person, as well, haha.
