Here is a project I had to do for Digital Imaging. Well, I didn't have to do it exactly like this, but I did have to do a compositing project, you know the deal. I can handle shooting for compositing, and I know how to do it, but I'm not really a fan of actually doing it.

I'd rather spend 8 hours behind the lens in the camera or processing out a whole set or show of images versus taking the same time to make a composited image look really slick. It can look really cool if done right and I know people who do amazing things in photoshop, but it's just not as much fun for me. Working to make something look surreal in a straight photo is more exciting to me than working to make something unreal look acceptable to the eye.

The file was created to make a 20inch to 40 inch tall print, so even as a large jpg it's not really viewed as intended.

I don't know if it would be different at the full size but, since the drapery reminds me of Magritte and the lighting is doing something I can't quite articulate, I get the feeling that part is painted and it makes me very uneasy (in a good way).

I had to paint in a little here and there, but I don't think it's really as well done as an illustration major would have done it, haha. I wish I was better at making painted detail cause it would help for this kind of thing. As it is, I suck at it. haha

..i'm not used to working that large - how big is the file size for that large of a print? 300dpi right? and what size of photos do you have to shoot? i think like you, i prefer a more traditional aesthetic, but this does look really cool. i'm so envious of you, learning everything you are..

It hovered between 1 and 2 gigs the entire time, depending on the amount of layers and masks.

Each arm/body part was shot as one 8mp canon 20d shot and the background is made of three 8mp shots.

I'm not too envious, I had to teach myself much of what I didn't learn a couple years ago at Hallmark... haha. Took forever.

Thank you :)
Mind if I ask what you mean by editing? Is it the collage type stuff I've had to do for class that you like or the general crispness I'm going for with stuff?

The massive amount of arms, plus the title of the piece and the abundance of white cloth makes me think of the great green Arkleseizure and the Jatravartids. Don't take it personally though... My subconscious seemingly has no respect for art whatsoever. I recently felt the need to inform my cousin that her painting of a white orb floating through the woods struck me as a closeup depiction of pet dander in a forest of cat hair.

Yeah, I shot the background at desoto, hehe. I was trying to think of a good place, and I guess that just was the easiest. This was pretty last minute.

Hey did you go to Pattern is Movement, btw?

Please consider applying!

Hello, I saw your photos on [info]photographers and so followed you to your livejournal. Hopefully, you don’t mind! I thought you would be a great contestant for Livejournal’s Next Top Photographer. I hope you consider applying! I have followed with some information about the contest.

What is LNTP?
Livejournal’s Next Top Photographer is a spin-off of the hit dramality television show, America’s Next Top Model. Instead of models, photographers will go head to head and compete in weekly photo shoot challenges. Like ANTM, there are weekly challenge winners who will receive small prizes. There will also be weekly eliminations until one photographer is left and titled Livejournal’s Next Top Photographer. The winner will receive some great prizes, which will remain a secret for now. But rest assured, when they are announced, you will not be disappointed. This would be a great opportunity to expand your portfolio and explore different areas of photography. There is nothing to lose and everything to gain from joining Livejournal’s Next Top Photographer. Apply here for a chance to become LJ’s Top Photographer.

Who’s judging me?
Jodie – The founder of LNTP.
Tiffany – Photographer, her work can be seen on http://www.flickr.com/photos/fadingvisions
Dayna – Photographer, writer, and general artist. Her work has been featured in Ellegirl magazine.

There may also be some very exciting guest judges that may also judge you in the future!

Also join [info]ljsphotochat to get a behind the scenes look at how the community works, read weekly critiques from the judges, and make icons and banners for your favourite contestants and Shutterbug contests. All prospective contestants must also join [info]ljsphotochat to be able to compete.

(If you don't like community promotion on your journal, I'm VERY very sorry. I didn't know.)

What is the title? I find this sort of disturbing in a good way- yes surreal= Would like to understand your choice of background and why the ball of arms and sheet and the gestures? Of course as your mom I am very curious= still think you'd be a good animator and love to see you do more with digital and computer media- Mom
